Acute Coronary Syndrome Shared Decision-Making Tool Effective for Preventing Unnecessary Admissions

The BMJ published an article looking at ER use of a shared decision-making tool called PREtestConsultACS (Link) available through the Mayo Clinic’s Shared Decision-Making National Resource Center (Link).

The study (Hess EP, et al. BMJ 2016;355:i6165) showed that use of this tool “in patients at low risk for acute coronary syndrome increased patient knowledge about their risk, increased engagement, and safely decreased the rate of admission to an observation unit for cardiac testing.”
