Intussussception

Age = 3 mo – 36 mos
Incidence = approx 1%
Pathophysiology = “lead points” (Meckel’s, tumors) – more common in older children (36+ mos)
History:  currant jelly stool (15-20%)
Diagnosis:  U/S, enema
Treatment:  enema (barium or air); if not successful, surgery – if surgeon cannot reduce it, remove and anastamosis.
If recurrence, go looking for “lead point” lesions.
