Cardiology Pearls

From Dr Keith Dickerson:

  • No NSAIDs for patients on anti-platelet meds post-ACS.
  • Dual antiplatelet therapy:  ASA + clopidogrel or ticagrelor
    • – up to 12 mos in all NSTE-ACS
    • – > 12 mos if PCI done
Lexiscan Nuclear Med scans:
  • Interpretations:  1.  Normal  2.  Partially reversible  3.  Fixed (scar tissue, not reversible)
If partially-reversible – HIGH-RISK LESION
  • – Call the pt, what meds are they on?, intensify the antiplatelet therapy (start or increase ASA dose), maximize BP control, beta-blockade, counsel thoroughly re sxs and when to go to ED.
1/4 of acute MIs still result in death!
