Spasticity vs Rigidity

Both cause increased resistance to movement.
Spasticity
    – weakness of the affected extremity
    – definite increased resistance in one direction of movement
     – velocity-dependent – increased resistance the faster you move the limb
Rigidity
 – extremity is not weak
 – resistance is the same in both flexion and extension
 – no difference with velocity
The cogwheel rigidity of Parkinson’s is rigidity + tremor
