Premenstrual Syndromes – PMDD, PMS

Dx:
– symptom diary helpful
– diagnostic criteria (DSM-V)
Tx:
– SSRIs
– quetiapine
– venlafaxine
– calcium supplements
– OCPs
– CBT
DDx:  depression, anxiety, anemia, hypothyroid, migraines
PMS:
– 1 sx from both affective and somatic categories for 3 cycles
– angry outbursts, bloating, breast tenderness, HA, depression, joint pain, irritability, weight gain, social withdrawal
PMDD:
– at least five of the symptoms (affective, psychiatric)
– start in the week prior to menses, symptoms must improve within a few days after onset of menses
